Getting post is great.
After getting the House Industries mailer, I've now got some fontshop.com (founded by Erik Spiekermann) stuff through too in the form of my first issue of a printed 'Font' magazine and two brochures.
'Font Booklet No 1' houses a selection of typefaces available through the shop. It's preforate down the center too so that you can tear the pages into halves neatly and compare the typefaces against each other. Genius!
'Font Booklet No 2' has a selection of optically scaling fonts (those that change typographic colour with point size) and it's quite detailed about design and history for a specimin brochure.
Lastly 'Font' has news pieces on a few typographic (obviously) orientated things such as Rob Meek's typographic synthesiser and Fontshop.com's own 'FontStruct' online software.

Although fontshop.com's a great site I've never really looked at the site in depth much and have now discovered a little tresure trove of typo stuff to geek out on. Especially the Student Section! Can't believe I missed that.
Also on a side note, I've been consciously and unconsciously adding people from Reading's MATD at Flickr.com and today I received a reply from Michael Hochleitner:
Hi Lewis,
Thanks for you kind words on Ingeborg. I especially like
the "steroids" part! :)
I’ve taken a look at your Flickr stream and for me it
looks like you are on an excellent way. It’s clear that
you show interest and taste. The most important part is
that you make clear your motivation and even more, that you
are sure about what you want.
Talk to Gerry Leonidas as soon as possible and be open
about your plans.
And next time you are in Vienna, give ma a visit.
cheers!
Michi

Great to hear some enthusiastic words! Download a specimin of his 'Ingeborg' here and visit his design group's site here.
I need to contact Brighton and Reading about their graphics courses and what my options would be if I chose to study there so even if I figure it's not what I want, I can at least have some kind of heads up. The answer of 'typography at reading' as a reply to "what are you doing next year?" is beginning to wear a little thin with actual insight so it needs to be done.
Had a talk with Neil also today and he showed me the begginning steps of getting into creating a font. Can't wait to get something drafted up to try it all out! I think I might have a play around on fontstruct for a while first.
