Book - Font. The Sourcebook

From now on I shall be taking pictures and writing a few notes on books I own/buy/read rather than just sticking them into notes at the side. My blog's looking pretty text heavy as of late so time to get visual again!

Here's the publishers information page for 'Font. The Sourcebook' including downloadable spreads in PDF

[I] Cover shot. Spot UV varnised on the black type. Main 'F' is Clarendon I think. The more I look at it the clumsier the swashes look in the background. Grr.
[II] Excerpt from an interview. The first section of the book, because of it's quite historical nature, is puncutated with interviews, essays and examples of work. Really nice to digest some meaty knowledge then have an less fact-choked few pages. A reprieve if anything which makes reading a lot more pleasant.
[III] Example of historical section spread. Diagrams and notes are always well laid out and not overly oppressive or rigidly set to a systematic spread-replicating grid which is nice for a change.
[IV] Example of an Artist's work.
[V] The second section lists fifty almost legendary status typefaces. Weights are given on the right with explanations, history and usage on the left. Brilliant!

I haven't properly read through this yet so I will post again with an opinion of the whole once it's been digested.

Time to nosh me a banquet of text. Bon appetite!
