This image reminded me of an artist I haven't profiled yet on my blog yet always love looking at. Range Murata.

I love the painterly style he uses and the photo-realistic protrayal of objects. Take a look at the motorbike in the above pictures. It seems almost like a technical drawing from an 80s parts manual. This against the solidly style anime figures and quite thematic backgrounds makes anime all the more interesting I feel. His style seems more sophisticated than most and although the characters are normally playful within anime, he makes them seem not so. I'm yet to buy on of his Robot v._ books but I always go into waterstones and wish I had the money. Maybe my new loan installment will help that .

Similar is this guy: Ugetsu Hakuwa

Although his style is more typically revolved around anime clichés of human-cats, angels, girls with guns etc. the painterly element still brings a different aspect to normally flat or heavily colour-solid based work. I particularly like some of the group portrayals he did for Flamboyant Burst Angel (Japanese titles always sound so naff translated?!) as the angles he's used really make the pieces dynamic and once (and lastly) the painterly style gives each part it's own texture and depth.
